Tipton County’s high school football night ended with two teams still alive in the TSSAA playoffs and one season over.

The scores

Munford 53, Dickson County 14 — Class 5A first round at Munford. The Cougars led 45-6 by halftime and finished the night 10-1. Munford entered as the Region 8-5A No. 1 seed after last week’s 41-21 region-title win over Memphis Central.

Covington 48, Melrose 12 — Class 3A first round at Melrose in Memphis. The Chargers, listed at 7-3 entering the game, knocked off the Golden Wildcats to move on.

Henry County 42, Brighton 7 — Class 5A first round in Paris. The Cardinals finished the season 5-6 after the road playoff loss.

What’s next

Munford advances to the Class 5A second round on Friday, Nov. 13. Per the TSSAA bracket, the Cougars draw Station Camp, which beat James Lawson 45-14 in the first round. The higher seed hosts in the second round; Munford’s MaxPreps schedule lists the game as a home contest at 7 p.m.

Covington advances to the Class 3A second round on Friday, Nov. 13, against Fairview, which beat Stratford 28-16. Fairview entered the postseason undefeated at 10-0 and is the higher seed, so the Chargers are on the road.

Brighton’s season ends with the loss at Henry County.

Why it matters

Three Tipton County programs were in the first round on the same Friday night. Two keep playing. Munford stays on a deep Class 5A path after claiming the region title a week ago. Covington punches through in Class 3A against a Memphis opponent. Brighton exits after a competitive 5-5 regular season.
