Civic Scoop ποΈ
Our local leaders and law enforcement have been busy bees, keeping Tipton running smoothly and safely.
- Holiday Heads-Up from Atoka Town Hall! Planning errands? Town Hall will be closed December 24 & 25, and January 1 & 2. Also, Republic Services is taking a well-deserved break on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, so expect trash pickup to be delayed by one day those weeks. Plan ahead, y’all! ποΈποΈ
- Safety First on Our Roads: Big shout-out to the Covington Police Department! They, alongside Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office and Ripley PD, swiftly nabbed a suspect this week in connection with alarming roadway shootings on Highway 54. Dedreck Campbell is now behind bars facing serious charges, and we’re breathing a sigh of relief. Chief Donna Turner commended her team’s quick work and our local camera tech, saying, “I am thankful no one was fatally injured.” Us too, Chief! ππ
- Justice for All: In more serious news, investigations are ongoing after three teens were reportedly shot in a gun deal gone wrong, leading to multiple arrests. Our officers are on top of these situations, and we’re grateful for their continuous vigilance in keeping our communities secure. π
What’s Poppin’ ποΈ
Mark your calendars for a profound community event:
“Sea of Blue” Memorial: On Tuesday, January 6, 2025, at 5:30 PM, the Tipton County Sheriffβs Office will host a powerful “Sea of Blue” Memorial. This moving procession will honor all fallen law enforcement officers, specifically remembering Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Calvin Jenks on the 19th anniversary of his sacrifice on Highway 14. π
Join the procession of emergency vehicles (lights ablaze!) starting at the Justice Center (1801 S. College St., Covington), proceeding to Highway 59, then down Highway 14, and stopping at the memorial site for a brief prayer and remarks from local, state, and national leaders. Citizens are invited to line the route and gather at the site to show support. Emergency vehicles wishing to join can line up at 4:30 PM. Let’s stand together. ππ
